Performed by Ramlord’s vocalist and guitarist Jann, Leather Chalice’s approach opts for a more post-punk inspired take on grimy and raw black metal. Cold, wizened guitar notes weave through plodding, double kick percussion while Jan’s desperate, raspy screams float over the hymns. These flippant sections of disparaging punk merge seamlessly with slower pulsing power chords and tromping percussion and upbeat and chunky power chords progressions. It’s chilly and dreary affair, bringing an original black metal and punk amalgamation that shows a pretty vast improvement over the project’s earlier material.
